Walsall Works is aimed at helping eligible businesses to invest in their future work-force through apprenticeships. We are able to provide a financial incentive payment towards wages to assist employers in recruiting apprentices.
Over a three year period, Walsall Works supported 500 young people aged 16-24 to secure an apprenticeship within a small to medium sized business across a number of growth sectors.
Employers recruiting young people will be offered up to £6,000 as an incentive payment. This is in addition to the training costs of the apprenticeship framework which are met in full for young people aged 16 to 18 and 50% for those aged 19 to 24.
The programme seeks to support small and medium sized employers (businesses that employ up to 250 employees) who pay their business rates to Walsall Council. We will consider applications made by large employers (250+ staff) if they can demonstrate the position is creating added benefit to the Walsall area.
Employers in the following sectors who can offer new and additional apprenticeships to young people aged 16-24 years old will be eligible.
- Niche and high-value manufacturing & engineering
- Environmental technologies
- Financial and professional business services
- Creative and digital industries
- Health and social care
