Much of the company’s work is focussed on the water industry, where Barhale has long-term contracts with Severn Trent, Thames Water, Anglian Water’s @One Alliance, and Scottish Water Solutions.

The core business units are supported by specialist plant, tunnelling, fabrication and process divisions to provide a single source of supply.

It maintains a zero accident culture and believes that all accidents are preventable and that no task should be undertaken unless it can be done safely. This approach, combined with a commitment to the environment and a belief in the importance of forming partnerships with clients, gives Barhale a unique position in its market and one which is valued by the clients for whom it works.

Very early in the company’s growth the company recognised the need for a strategically-located base which would enable the firm to provide its services nationwide. It identified Walsall as an ideal location and opened a plant yard and fabrication business in the town in 1980. By 2001 the company had grown into a significant group and moved its headquarters from Harrow to its current premises in Wallows Lane, Walsall, and then to a much larger office complex in Bescot Crescent two years later.

Today, more than 200 of the group’s 1,000 employees are based in Walsall. According to Barhale chairman and founder Dennis Curran, the town provides everything the company needs to thrive.

“Our HQ and plant and fabrication businesses are all a few hundred yards from the M6 and so are ideally placed to travel anywhere in the country via the motorway network. Walsall also provides us with a pool of bright, committed people to enhance our workforce and that is vital in ensuring that the next 25 years are as successful as the first. In return, we are delighted that we can help generate wealth for the town and we are pleased that we continue to enjoy a good working relationship with the local authority.”
