Healthcare

Healthcare is a priority in the borough, with Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust employing over 3,200 staff.  A £140 million redevelopment project of Walsall Manor Hospital is currently underway, to provide fully equipped new facilities including a diagnostic and treatment centre, an integrated women, children and young people centre and a pathology laboratory.  The Trust also hopes to provide an integrated multi professional education centre.

Education

Queen Mary’s Grammar School and Queen Mary’s High School rank amongst the country’s top 50 schools, whilst Walsall College of Arts & Technology is a vocational centre of excellence, equipped with some of the finest facilities in the region.

Developing innovative links between businesses and education is Walsall Education Business Partnership, who, over the last year, have worked with over 15,000 students to maximize their potential.

Leisure

Combining rural, waterfront and urban environments, Walsall offers something for everyone.  The visually stunning Walsall Art Gallery opened in 2000, and aims to make art accessible to all – entry is free. At its heart is the Garman Ryan collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures, with works by many leading European artists.

The Leather Museum celebrates Walsall’s history and industrial heritage, reflecting the achievements of the leather craftsmen and women of the borough.  Visitors can watch skilled leather workers in the process of hand-crafting leather goods, with guided tours and an array of activities for both adults and children.

The jewel of Walsall’s outdoor spaces is the Arboretum, a park containing over 200 different varieties of trees and shrubs. Home to the spectacular Walsall illuminations, a dramatic light and laser show around the 35 acres of lakes, trees and gardens, the Arboretum provides a haven from the hustle and bustle of the town centre.

The surrounding area also provides a wealth of cultural, leisure and sporting options, from Test cricket at Edgbaston to Ryder Cup golf at the Belfry, and from the Birmingham Royal Ballet to world class concerts, gigs and exhibitions at the National Exhibition Centre. As well as providing opportunities to watch your favourite sports, there are local clubs and venues covering the complete range of sporting activities.
