Eco-Innovation Programme
 
The Eco-Innovation Programme is a new funding stream that started in 2008 under the Competitiveness and
Innovation Programme (CIP).
 
It will be run by the Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI, previously known as Intelligent Energy European Agency) in close collaboration with the Directorate General Environment.

 

Funding Objectives:

  • Support first applications and market uptake of innovative products, processes and services
  • Aim at bridging the gap between Research & Development and commercialisation
  • Remove obstacles to the wide application of ecoinnovation
  • Create and enlarge markets, with a strong emphasis on SMEs

  • Total programme Budget - 2008-2013 195 million Euros
  • Launch date:  20 April 2009
  • Deadline for submission of 2009 proposals: September 2009
  • Intervention Rates: 50% of the total eligible costs + 7% indirect costs
  • Duration - 3 years maximum
  • Application tips- SMART: Specific; Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; Timely

Eligibility Criteria:

  • SMEs and private beneficiaries.

Be aware that only technically demonstrated, high quality projects should apply - some 40 of the best projects are expected to receive funding
 

To be successful your project will have to:

  • have an innovative character and substantial positive impacts on the environment
  • provide significant potential for replication, wider application and broader marketability;
  • be relevant for and show clear and substantial benefits in support of Europe’s environmental policy objectives
  • demonstrate a European added value and an international project dimension;
  • be well thought-through from a technical and project management perspective;
  • be cost-effective delivering higher quality through appropriate effort levels.

The project is not suitable if:

  • The project focuses on public sector
  • The project focuses on energy efficiency or renewable energies
  • The project is at an early research or development stage or has a high technological risk or high financial risk
  • The project focuses on landuse planning and water management
